The last rites for Mrs. Ada Vaughn were held at the Johnannsen funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Oliver Jensen of the Methodist church in charge.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Burr accompanied by Mrs. C.A. Brust, sang “Rock of Ages” and “In The Garden.”
Authur Robertson, Joe Robertson, Earl Hupper, Virian Palmer, Vern Clark and Darwin Cooper served as pallbearers.
Interment was made in the family lot in West View cemetery.
Mrs. Vaugh was born Ada Edna Smith, daughter of William and Hattie Smith at Waterloo, Iowa, on March 6, 1885. When a still small child she moved with her parents to a farm southwest of La Porte City, where she grew to womanhood and attended the local high school. After her graduation she taught school for several years.
On March 27, 1907, she married Lee Vaughn at the home of her parents. She and her husband farmed west of this city for four years, near Rothsay, Minn., 11 years and near Nora Springs, Iowa, 19 years before coming back to a farm west of La Porte City in 1941. Mr. Vaughn died January 20, 1944. After his death Mrs. Vaughn continued to farm with her son Kenneth until June of 1947, when she moved to her home on Third St. here.
Her survivors are two sons, Merle and Kenneth, La Porte City, one daughter, Mrs. A.R. Link, Mason City; five grandchildren, Roger and Gary Vaughn and Sharon, Ellen and Duane Link; her mother, Mrs. Hattie Smith, who lived with her; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Billingsley of Iowa Falls and one brother, Glenn Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.
She was a member of the Methodist church and of the Thursday club.
