OBITUARY - Mrs. Wm. Root, Early County Teacher Dies - Son and Daughter Survive 76 Year Old Woman Who Succumbed on Saturday Morning
Mrs. Wiliam L. Root, 76, died at her home near New Richland Saturday morning, April 12, at ten o'clock. Her health had been poor for several years, but she had only been seriously ill for one week.
Cora Isabelle Stearns, daughter of Ebenezer and Emily Stearns, was born April 2, 1865 in Lemond township, Steele County. Her parents moved to Otisco township when she was two years old. She attended school in District 21 and later the Wasioja Seminary. She also taught school before her marriage.
On September 4, 1887, she was married to Wm. L. Root of Wilton township. Mr. Root died July 13, 1915. She is survived by one son, Burch B. Root of New Richland, and one daughter, Mrs. Ireva Voorhies of Niarada, Montana. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren. Two sons, Arthur and Howard, died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. E.S. Gehring (Floy) of Kalispell, Montana, died in 1939. One sister, Mrs. Mary Baldridge of Milbank, S.D., survives.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at two o'clock at the home and at 2:30 at the Congregational church. Rev. Chas. A. Pobanz will conduct the services and burial will be made in the Wilton cemetery.
Pall bearers are Orrin Root and Wm. Gutfleisch, Waseca; Floyd Stearns, Albert Lea; Seth Winegar, Stuart Root and Earl Nelson, New Richland, the first five being nephews of the deceased.
People from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Allen Voorhies and daughter, Bessie, Niarada, Montana; E.S. Gehring, Kalispell, Mont.; Eddie Stearns, Superior, Wis.; Marvin Root, Cass Lake; Anita Root, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Gehring and daughter, Minneapolis; Floyd Stearns, Albert Lea.
