Mrs. Claudia Virginia Thompson, 98, of 3225 Wabash, who had been called "the mother of University Baptist Church," died Sunday in a convalescent home.
A native of McClennan [sic] County and resident of Fort Worth since 1932, Mrs. Thompson was a teacher in Baptist Sunday schools in Clarendon and at University Baptist for more than 60 years.
She joined the church in 1934, five years after the congregation was founded. She was the ground breaker for the new church sanctuary and for every building project the church has had.
In 1968 the church honored her with"Mrs. E.A. Thompson Day."
She was a past president of the University Art Club, University General Club and the University Baptist Woman's Missionary Union.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Lillie Ruth Thompson and Miss Sara Virginia Thompson, both of Fort Worth, and three brothers, Frank Morgan of Oklahoma City, Jerry Morgan of Detroit and Rubert Morgan of California.
Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in University Baptist Church with graveside services at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clarendon.

Bio: Claudia Virginia Morgan Thompson, Daughter of Caledonia Shead and William C. Morgan, she was born near the Shead Ranch in Limestone County, Texas. She lived at the ranch and married Eugene Thompson there. They buried twin boys on the ranch and then Claudia and her husband moved north with William Morgan and other siblings. She and Eugene had two more children, both daughters.
