Obituary

With a sad heart but in faith and humbleness I will endeavor to write a short sketch of our dear loving Lawson Chestnut, who fell peacefully asleep in Jesus' arms August 18th 1918 near Bethlehem Church, while bathing about 11 am. He was found about 6 pm and was taken to his home. His remains were laid to rest at the old family graveyard the following day to await the resurrection morning. He leaves a father, Mother, two brothers and three sisters to mourn the loss, but we feel that our loss is his eternal gain. He was always bright and loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Hickory Grove for the past three years and was a member of the WOW at Hickory Grove Camp.

Dearest Lawson,
And our loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God that hath bereft feel.
He can all our sorrows heal.

Earth has lost its look of gladness,
Heaven seems to us more light
Sweetness thoughts will ever linger.
Round the grave where you are laid.

We long to cross that river,
Long to rest upon the shore;
There to see, know and love you,
With the Savior ever more.

Dear Lawson you are missed by all.
