COALWOOD — Frederick G. "Grandad" Beavers, age 83, of Coalwood, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton. Born April 16, 1928 in Caretta, he was the son of the late James and Hazel Hunt Beavers.

He retired from Olga Coal Company after 40 years. He was a member of the Berwind Masonic Lodge #141. He enjoyed working in his work shop and giving unofficial "Rocket Boys" tours of Coalwood to tourist.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia E. (Jenny) Smith Beavers; three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Vickie) Gilman of Coalwood, Ms. Terri Sokolow of Bristol, Va. and Ms. Toni Robbins of Coalwood; six grandchildren, Tara Helton and Ashley Gilman, both of Huntington, W.Va., Tasha Foy of Bristol, Va., Joshua Sokolow of Madrid, Spain and Jeremy and Jacob Robbins, both of Huntington, W.Va.; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan and Haley Helton, Oliver and Lucy-Claire Foy and Levi and Dylan Followay and Sophie Robbins; one sister, Margie B. Jones of Chesterfield, Va.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Coalwood United Methodist Church in Coalwood from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Joe Moore officiating, and there will be no interment.

The family will receive friends at the home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Coalwood United Methodist Church, HC 31 Box 90, Welch WV 24801, or to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd. #300, Frisco, TX 75034.
