Tommie J. Williams (1926 - 2011)

Tommie J. Williams, 84 years young, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Arlington Elks Lodge, 601 W. Pioneer Parkway. Interment: 1 p.m. Saturday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Tommie J. Williams to Volunteer Services, VA North Texas Health Care System, Volunteer-135, 4500 S. Lancaster Road, Dallas, Texas 75216, 214-857-2211.

Tommie was born June 10, 1926. He served in the South Pacific during World War II with the U.S. Navy. His service continued as an active volunteer at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, repairing flags and volunteering in the public information center. Tommie received numerous certificates for outstanding service from the Grand Lodge Order of the Elks. He also earned the Certificate of Appreciation with 3,186 hours of services from the Department of Veterans Affairs-North VA Texas Health Care for 11 years of service. He was the dad of four, grandpa of four and papa of five great-grandchildren. His wife of 59 years, Bobbie, was his partner in volunteerism until her death in 2009. They were life members of the Arlington Elks Lodge 2114, volunteered at the Veterans Hospital in Dallas and Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Tommie and Bobbie were named Elk and Lady Elk of the Year over multiple years. They both gave of themselves in more ways than can be listed. Anyone who knew them understood their commitment to service. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one son, Michael; and his beloved wife, Bobbie Jean.

Survivors: Sister, Elnora Harvey of Fort Worth; sons, Tommie Jay and Charles W. Williams of Arlington; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Keith Foster of Katy; grandchildren and spouses, Justin and wife, Amy, Landon and wife, Kristi, Rebecca and husband, Alan, and Rachael; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Macgregor, Landon and Kaliey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
