Bryan W. Hughes

Bryan William Hughes, 18, 908 Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Hughes was a native of Carter County and the son of Ronald McKenney and step-mother, Heidi McKenney, Edwardsville, Pa., and Teresa Hughes Sams, Elizabethton, and step-father, Randy Sams, Morganton, N.C.

Mr. Hughes was employed by Kysor Panel Systems, Piney Flats, and was a graduate of Freedom High School, Morganton, N.C.

Survivors, in addition to his parents and step-parents, include two sisters, Avonda Townsend, Elizabethton, and Melissa McKenney, Edwardsville, Pa.; a brother, Christopher McKenney, Edwardsville, Pa.; his maternal grandfather, William Dallas Hughes, Elizabethton; his maternal grandmother, Lucille Jones, Elizabethton; his maternal step-grandfather, Daniel C. Jones, Elizabethton; his paternal grandmother, Betty Jo Peterson, Jonesborough; two special aunts, Betty Smith and Mary Holly, both of Elizabethton; and two special friends, Alicia and Courtney, Morganton, N.C. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

HUGHES -- A candlelight funeral service for Bryan William Hughes, 18, 908 Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Friday, July 6, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. William H. Gahagan, O.P., and the Rev. A.G. Wagner officiating. Music will be under the direction of Freddie Arnold. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, in the Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City. Active pallbearers will be Ted McKenney, Clifford Peterson, Ralph Holly, Brian Smith, Ed Walls and Mike Cunningham.

Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 908 Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, at any time. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, (423) 543-4917, is in charge of arrangements.
