Ruth E. McCalmant
Ruth E. McCalmant, 73, of Wyoming, died Friday, April 8, 1988, at her home in Wyoming.
She was born Feb. 26, 1915 near Canton, the daughter of Leon and Jessie McCollough Carpenter. Ruth attended rural schools near Onslow and graduated from Onslow High School in 1932.
On Dec . 1, 1936 she married George McCalmant at Maquoketa. The couple lived in Wyoming their entire married lives.
Ruth worked for many years at the Kleineck Nursing Home at Onslow, and later cooked at Dick's Midway Cafe until retiring. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wyoming, the Royal Neighbors of America Lodge, the Madonna Rebekah Lodge of Wyoming, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Patriarch Militant of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, and the Wyoming American Legion Auxiliary. Ruth is survived by her husband George, one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Loraa) Watters, and one son Richard, both of Wyoming; three sisters, Mrs. Wilma Heister of Onslow, Mrs. Sybil Walroff of Maquoketa, and Mrs. Leo (Donna) Lange of Monticello; a half-sister Mrs. Beulah Myers of Anamosa; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, one brother and one half-brother. Funeral services were held Monday April 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wyoming with burial in the Wyoming Cemetery, the Rev. Ron Grimes officiating.
Pallbearers were Richard Watters, William Watters, Robert Christiansen, John McCalmant, Elmer Rohlena, and Cecil Myers.
Hayden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
