Mr. Richard L. Christ, 76, of Burlington died at 8:08 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Great River Medical Center.
Born October 14, 1934 in Burlington, he was the son of Nick Demetrius and Esther Marie Freed Christ. On August 13, 1976 he married Janet Hartman Bunte in Burlington.
Mr. Christ was a Burlington High School graduate. He started as a journeyman machinist for Murray Ironworks and later worked as a machinist and in tool and die for Champion Spark Plug for 30 years, retiring in the fall of 1991.
Mr. Christ was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and Moose, Eagles and UAW. He played in a local band called "The Scrubbs", playing at area nursing homes. He loved dancing, golf, movies, working on old cars and playing softball with family.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Janet Christ of Burlington; one son, Larry Christ of Charlotte, North Carolina; three daughters, Linda Anderson of Mount Pleasant, Julie Tonkovitz of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Jodi Christ of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Joshua Anderson, Wayne Anderson, Rachel Christ, Lauren Christ, Natalie Tonkovitz, Kelsey Tonkovitz, Nick Crow and Brooke Crow; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Ryan Anderson; and four nephews, Ralph Holmstrom, Danny Hartman, Mike Hartman and Tom Hartman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two half-brothers, Carl Holmstrom and Rodney Holmstrom.
