40 Years Ago, 1927 - Mrs. Monson Wheeler Bliss had an issue of the New York Herald of 4-15-1865 which told of the death of Lincoln. Mr. Bliss, before his death last summer, used to recall the days when he was on duty in Washington and took dispatches to the White House, where he met the President often and became good friends with his son Robert.22 Apr 1902, Leavenworth KS: Monson W. Bliss who was sergeant in Co. D 120th MI Inf, has been admitted to the hospital at the soldiers home from Kansas City MO where he has a wife and daughter. Some years ago while a Pullman car conductor he was injured in the back which resulted in paralysis. Since then he engaged in the printing business and has been allowed a pension of $24 per month by special act of congress.
