US Congressman. Born in Eagle Rock, Virginia, he later moved to Lorain County, Ohio, graduated from Western Reserve University, in 1936 and was a salesman for heating equipment in Akron, Ohio. During World War II, he served as a as a Private in the United States Army. After the war, he was president of the Ayres Heating & Insulation Company, Akron, Ohio. In 1951, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second Congress and to the next nine succeeding Congresses, serving until 1971. After his final term, he resumed his position as president of the Ayres Heating & Insulation Company, Akron, Ohio. He died of heart kidney ailments at age 84 in Columbia, Maryland.
