Service Conducted From Late Home by Rev. Morley - Sketch of Deceased's Life
Robert C. Shaw, an old soldier, died at his home, 2220 Prairie avenue, about 4:30 o'clock Sunday morning. While his condition had been serious for the past two weeks, his demise was caused chiefly from ailments contracted during the civil war, in which in which he gave about four years of his life. He lacked but a few months of being seventy years old.

The Funeral
The funeral services were held from the late residence, this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. F. Morley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Interment was made in Dodge Grove cemetery.

The member of Mattoon post, G. A. R., of which, the deceased was member, acted as an honorary escort, while six old comrades acted as pallbearers.

Sketch of His Life
Robert C. Shaw was born in Sligo County, Ireland, June 23, 1835. He was but a samll child when he came this country with his parents, who settled in Ohio. Here they remained for several years and then migrated to Lawrence county, Illinois, settling near Sumner. Here he was married to Miss Josephine McCord, who survives him, on January 4, 1871. Seven children was the result of this union, three having died in infancy. Those living are:

Edith B. Grow, Lawrenceville, Ill., J. Raymond, Eagle Ridge, Ark., Charles C. who resides at home and Carl U. of Tuscola.

The deceased was mustered in as a soldier at St. Louis. Joining company G, Seventh regiment, Missouri volunteers, under Colonel John C. Watts. He participated with his company in active engagements, at Boonville, Rolla, and Medon Station, Mo., Britton's Lane and in Corinth, Fort Gibson, Thompson's Hill, Raymond, Jackson end several other conflicts In Mississippi.

He was first honorably discharged at Vicksburg December 31, 1863. He- reenlisted 7 March 17, 1865 with company B, fifth regiment, Hancock's veteran reserve reserve corps from which he received his final discharge in Augusta, Me., March 17, 1866.

Eight Years Ago
the deceased with his family, came to this city from Lawrenceville in 1897. He has led a retired life since that time.
