Leslie Irene Ross was born on October 4, 1888 in Casey, Clark County, Illinois. One of four children born to Silas E. Ross and Sarah Elizabeth Gilbert. Leslie married Charles David Breeze on October 6, 1905 in Yale, Oklahoma. They would be the parents of five sons and one daughter. By 1917 the family was in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois. In 1925 Leslie was widowed and went to work to support the family. According to her application for a social security number in December 1936 she was employed by Brown Shoe Company on North 15th Street in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois. At the time of her death she was employed as a hotel clerk. While living in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois, she would reside at 916 DeWitt Avenue in 1925 and 1912 1/2 Wabash Avenue in 1936 and 1702 1/2 Lafayette in 1959.

Mrs Breeze was a lifelong resident of Mattoon area, died at 9 a.m. Sep. 18, 1959 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dorthy Beldon, Logansport, Ind., where she had been visiting during the past two months. Mrs. Breeze, the widow of C. D. Breeze, was the former Leslie Irene Ross, a direct descendant of Betsy Ross who, according to legend, fashioned the first American flag. Mrs. Breeze was born in Casey. Surviving are the sons, Charles, Mattoon; William, Fort Myers, Fla.; Paul, Corpus Christi, Tex.; Garland, Dallas, Tex.; and Beryle, Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Mrs. Beldon of Logansport; brothers, Dick, Yale, Okla. and Josh, also residing in Oklahoma; ten grandchildren.
