He was born on October 30, 1952 in Herkimer son of Leona Madison Covey and the late James Albert Covey. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Mohawk. For a short a time he worked for the Mohawk Cemetery Association before he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in March of 1974. On August 8, 1990 he married Dawn Duncan in Ilion. They have resided in Cherry Valley since 1994.
In Freds leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his ten grandchildren.
Surviving besides his beloved wife, are his mother; three sons; one daughter and her husband, three step-daughters; one brother; two sisters and their husbands; ten grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his good companion and father-in-law who he loved very much.
