He was born March 14, 1917, in Middlesex County, and was the son of the late Stanley Lee and Inez Virginia William Shackelford.
Mr. Shackelford was a self-employed farmer and developer. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Stephens City, and the Winchester Moose Lodge.
On June 24, 1938, he married Madge Hoover, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Bruce Shackelford of Clear Brook; five daughters, Brenda Lockhart, Barbara Lee, and Beth Ladd, all of Winchester, Belinda James of Frederick, Md., and Bettina Eutsler of Middletown; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Omps Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
