Oregon City, Or., May 19. - Albert G. Walling, pioneer of Oregon, died at his home at Rockaway, Or., May 17, following an illness of about three weeks.
Mr. Walling was born June 24, 1847, on the plains while his father and mother, George and Frances Walling, were on their way to Oregon.
Mr. Walling's father homesteaded on the banks of the Willamette river about three miles below Oregon City, where the latter grew to manhood. He and his father engaged in the nursery business until 1882, when he formed a partnership with Presley Jarisch. The firm as known as the Walling & Jarisch nursery, and for several years these men operated one of the largest nurseries in the Willamette valley.
In 1907 Walling and Jarisch sold all their holdings to the Sisters of the Holey Name.
Mr. Walling moved to Portland where he made his home until about ten years ago, when he took up his residence at Rockaway, Or., where he made his home until his death.
Mr. Walling is survived by his widow, Mary Walling of Rockaway; three children, Mrs. Elsa Beardon of Rockaway, Mrs. Frances Hallinan and Walter E. Walling also his brother, George Walling of Salem, and the following grandchildren: Mrs. Altha Butler, Mrs. Genevieve Johnson, Seattle, Wash.; Miss Marjorie Walling, Salem; Cecil Hallinan and Marydell Walling of Redland.
Funeral services are to be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of Wheldon & Snook, Thirty-fifth and Belmont streets, Portland. Rev. Mr. Staub will officiate. Interment will be in the Rose City Cemetery, Portland.
