Christian Elias (went by Eli) Reed was fourth of nine known children of Jacob Reid/Reed (1774-1843) and Anna Maria (went by Maria) Hummel Reid/Reed ((1776-1857 (or 1856?)), who married 03 Apr 1800 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. The family moved from North Carolina to the vicinity of the Moravian Community of Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana in the 1830s.

Eli married Salome Catherine (went by Catherine) Snider (1804-1884) on 14 Aug 1831 in North Carolina. The family immediately moved to Indiana as their first child was born in Indiana in 1832. Eli and Catherine were the parents of eight known children, five girls and three boys. However, there may have been a ninth child, Lucy, who died young or perhaps Lucy was a nic-name for one of the known daughters. The eight children were:

1. David Cornelius Reed (1832-1904)
2. Mary Ann Hannah Reed Miller (1834-1925)
3. Clarinda Carolina Reed Roller (1837-1913)
4. Susanna Reed Oltman (1839-1916)
5. William Harrison Reed (1841-1899)
6. Lavina Eliza Reed Kendall (1843-1910)
7. Nancy C. Reed Reed (1845-1897)
8. Eli Benjamin Reed (1848-1935)

Eli was a life-long farmer. In 1888 Eli was known to be the grandfather of 52 grand-children (46 living) and the great-grandfather of 30 (28 living).

We are fortunate to have links to Eli's parents, wife, all eight of his known children and seven of his eight known siblings as included below.
