Architect and civil engineer. Important architectural works of his include Center Church (1812-1815) and Trinity Church (1813-1816) in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1820 he designed and patented the wooden truss bridge, which was widely used throughout the United States. In 1829, Town formed with Alexander Jackson Davis one of the first professional architectural firms in the United States.
