Mrs Sarah E Nusbaum, 80, who since the death of her husband, Christian A Nusbaum, 20 years ago had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Edward F. Gerster, 1711 Stevens avenue, of Elkhart, died at 6 o’clock Monday evening in the Elkhart General hospital. She was operated on at the hospital last Thursday for the removal of an intestinal growth.
Death of Mrs Nusbaum leaves but one survivor of the group of charter members of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ, a denomination that has its origin in Elkhart county. The one survivor is Elizabeth Bixler of 631 Cleveland avenue, Elkhart.
Mrs Nusbaum was the last survivor of the 10 children of Elias and Sophia Ehret. She was born on the homestead, for miles north of Wakarusa, Dec 19, 1855.
Following her marriage to Mr Nusbaum they lived in Olive township a number of years, and then after a residence in Goshen moved to Elkhart 45 years ago.
Surviving besides the daughter, Mrs Rose Gerster; are a son, Ralph O Nusbaum, editor and publisher of the Warsaw Union; and three grandchildren Dale Gerster of Elkhart, Miss Frances Nusbaum of Miami, FL and Roger Nusbaum of Warsaw.
The funeral was held Wednesday with the service at 3 o’clock at the Beulah church of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ, in Elkhart, and Burial in the Prairie Street cemetery. The Rev L L Rassi officiated.
