Edith Kingdon Gould was a socialite, linguist and poet. She was the granddaughter of Jay Gould, the "Robber Baron." She followed her dreams: writing poetry, playing music and appeared as an actress in the 1946 Broadway production of Agatha Christie's play Hidden Horizon.

At a young age, she joined the WAVES and served in the second world war. Later she married; her husband was Guy Martin, a Navy lieutenant and a lawyer in JAG. They married in Manhattan in October 1946 and had four children: Isaiah Guyman Martin III, Jason Gould Martin, Christopher Kingdon Martin and Edith Maria Theodosia Burr Martin.

She died at 83 on August 27, 2004 at their country home in Arksville NY, in the Catskills.
