On Nov 12, 2000 Fay Schlotfeldt, Gt. Grandson, received the following information from the D'port Public Library as follows:
"Davenport Democrat", June 19, 1905" headed "SIEVERT".
"At the home of her son-in-law, Hans Denker, In Eldridge, at 4:30 o'clock Sunday morning, Mrs. Caroline Sophia Sievert died at the age of 79 years. The deceased was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, in 1825, and came to this city in 1857. Her husband was Heinrich F. Sievert, now deceased, and for the last three and a half years she has lived with her daughter in Eldridge.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in Eldridge, with interment in the City cemetery in Davenport." The paper gave us her name as "Caroline Sophia" vs. the "Carolina" we
previously had recorded. I have changed the spelling to show the e. and add the middle name. We also did not have the birth year and this obituary has supplied that along with "Mecklenburg" as her place of birth in Germany. Also, while married, they were living at 1013 west 7th Street. I am disappointed that there is no mention of his parents or siblings which might help with Josie Banks question.
City Cemetery records indicate they had a son named Heinrich who died at 6 months and a tintype inherited from Mae Denker shows daughter Ernestine with a girl that looks like her sister. Both probably late teens. What her name was or who other daughter married we do not yet know.

In 2010 Fay found the 1905 Davenport, Scott, IA census record which shows the family of Josie Banks in Roll IA_109, Line 549, 1545 West 6th St. in Davenport. We agree that Fritz and our Caroline Sophia were probably brother and sister, but at this point can't validate it.
The census shows Fritz, Carolina (Wulf),(Married 1869) William, Louis & Sophie. If future research for "our" Carolina is desired, finding Fritz parents would be a good start. Try
(Footnote to above: In October of 2000, we received e-mail correspondence from Josie Banks, now of Las Cruces, New Mexico but formerly of Davenport. Her Grandmother and Great Grandmother were named Caroline Zarnt but she is not aware of the name Sieffert. She says, "The only connection I can imagine is that your Carolina might have been a sister of my Great Grandfather, Frederick, "Fritz" Zarnt b. 1837, Mecklinberg, Germany. He emigrated in 1864 and married my great grandmother, Caroline Wulf, in 1869 in Davenport, Iowa. One of their daughters was my grandmother Caroline "Minnie" Zarnt Collins. Minnie's daughter Anne Collins Westendorf was my mother".
We will research this because our Carolina's husband Heinrich was also from Mecklinberg. It is almost too much of a coincidence. Perhaps her obituary from the Davenport paper will give us more information. Will see if we can find that. (fes 10-2000)
