Neal Herndon Barbee, 78, of Baytown, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011, at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Barbee was born November 21, 1932, in Houston to George Silvester Barbee and Gladys Hamilton Barbee. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He entered the Army on his 17th birthday and fought in the Korean War. He then lived in Japan for several years. Mr. Barbee worked in the insurance industry and was an agent with Prudential Insurance for twenty-five years. Besides his family, he enjoyed woodworking, writing, reading and listening to jazz music.
Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Faye Barbee, brother, Wayne Barbee, and step-daughter, Nita Pinder, Mr. Barbee is survived by sons, Ethan Russell Barbee and wife, Silvia, of Houston and of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Aaron Barbee of Baytown, and step-son, George Pinder and wife, Debbie, of Deer Park; daughter, Rebecca Barbee Tyger and husband, Wayne and step-daughter, Sharon Henderson and husband, James, both of Houston; seven grandchildren; sister, Jewel Francis; and many other friends and family members who will miss him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2011, from 7 – 9 p.m. at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, in the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels, with Rusty Barbee officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale. Honoring the Mr. Barbee as pallbearers will be Rusty Barbee, Aaron Barbee, Michael Barbee, Frank Barbee, and Mark Francis.
