Lewis W. Sanders, 78, a pioneer resident of this vicinity and a life-long resident of Millfield, died early Monday evening at his home there, following a stroke of apoplexy he suffered several days ago from which he had been unconscious since last Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held from his late residence at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and burial will be in the Nye cemetery in this city.
Mr. Sanders was born and reared in Millfield and had spent his entire life in that community following the occupation of farming. He married Jennie King, also of Millfield,
in 1867, and they had spent fifty-nine years of married life. They had no children, but shared their home with a niece, Bertha Smith, who is the wife of Clarence E. Sanders of Millfield.
Besides his wife, Mr. Sanders leaves two brothers, Charles D. Sanders of Athens and C.L. Sanders of Millfield and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Sanders was a great uncle to Louis Sanders, of Millfield, the county coroner. - Athens Messenger June 22, 1926
