Earl E. Deckard, 98, of Bloomington, died Sunday at Beverly Healthcare.

Born Sept. 12, 1904, in Monroe County,
Son of Dillon and Myrtle (Young) Deckard.

A machinist at RCA for 25 years, retiring in 1968.

Survivors include:
Wife of 69 years, Iris (Stephens) Deckard of Bloomington;
1 son, David E. Deckard of Springville;
1 daughter, Susanne Deckard of Springville;
5 grandchildren
Several great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by:
Parents;
2 brothers, Carl and John;
3 sisters, Marie, Merle and Evelyn.

Services at Allen Funeral Home, with Sister Grace Hillenburg officiating.

Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery.

1930 Census - Earl Deckard, age 25, is found living in Bloomington Township, Monroe County, Indiana. Earl was employed as a machinist for the railroad. Also living in the home were his parents Dillon(56) and Myrtle(50) Deckard. Dillion was employed as a sawyer in a stone mill. Also in the home were his siblings Evelyn(18) and John(13) Deckard.

3/17/1934 - Earl E Deckard born 9/12/1904 in Monroe Co., IN, son of Dillon & Myrtle (Young) Deckard married Iris R. Stephens born 12/31/1912 in Monroe Co., IN daughter of Belvia & Flora (King) Stephens. Earl is employed as a machinist and Iris doing housework. It is a first marriage for both. Marriage license was in Morgan Co., IN but they were married in Bloomington, IN by Justice of the Peace Earl Murphy.

1940 Census - Earl E.(34) & Iris(27) Deckard are found living in a home they own, valued at $200 in Benton Tonwship, Monroe County, Indiana. Earl has an 8th grade education and is employed as a WPA laborer on Road Construction earning $144 in 1939. Iris has completed high school. No children are listed living in the home.
