VETERAN WW I US ARMY, CO. 1, US GUARDS

Dundee NY Observer 9/13/1979;
Stanley F Wood, age 83, died 9/6/1979 in Penn Yan. He leaves his wife, Edith; five sons, Lauren, Richard, Roger, Raymond, and Jack; and three daughters, Mrs Chauncey (June) Depew, Mrs Richard (Betty) Berl, and Mrs Norval (Shirley) Armstrong. Burial in Wayne Village cemetery.

Although the Armistice was signed two decades ago, Stanley Wood and Willis Glover, Tyrone World War veterans, have just completed arrangements for the organization of an American Legion Post here in Wayne, NY. It will have 15 members. A temporary charter has been issued by State Commander Jermiah Francis Cross of New York City and the securing of a permanent charter will be a formality. The new group will be known as the Meade-Price American Legion named after two Tyrone residents who lost their lives in the World War. Harry Meade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Meade, an ambulance driver, died during an influenza epidemic in New York City. Ernest Price, a brother of Mrs. Susan Crookston of Altay, as a member of Company G, 5th Marines, was killed in action in France. With the establishment of the Wayne Post, Schuyler County will have four separate organizations. Other posts are: Seneca Post 555, Watkins Glen; Montour Post, Montour Falls; and the Cole-Hansenberger-Deland Post, Odessa.
