Since 1945 the pastor served parishes from Saskatchewan to Florida including nine years, in St. Louis and 22 years in Minneapolis. Besides pastoral services, he, was a well known author of religious articles and books. Rev. Dr. Wedel served on national church bodies and was in demand as a lecturer and preacher. After he retired in Naples in 1986; he served as interim Pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church for 14 months and at Marco Lutheran Church for three months.
Rev. Dr. Wedel is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mim Wedel of Naples; sons, Dr. Mark Wedel of Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, Calif. and Tim Wedel of Palisade, Colo.; one daughter, Kathl Timm of Wauwatosa, Wis.; one brother, Karl Wedel of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and six grandchildren, Nathan Timm of Grinnell College, Iowa, Aaron Timm of Georgetown University, Anna Timm of Wauwatosa, Kelly Wedel of Valparaiso University and, Leah and Matt Wedel of Palisade, Colo.
Memorial services for the Rev. Dr. Wedel will be held Monday, May 18, 1992 at 7:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sullivan, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the "Alton F. Wedel Memorial Fund" for continuing education in pastoral care. These gifts may be sent in core of; Faith Lutheran Church, 4150 Goodlette Road, Naples, Fla, 33940. Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 1000 Bonita Parkway (new U.S. 41) is in charge of arrangements.
