He contributed to the design of the first force-feed grain drill manufactured by his father in law P. M. Gundlach. The great success of the grain drill can largely be credited to the sales abilities of Severin who increased sales in the first year from 200 to 800, in the second year to 1800 and after that to 2,000 drills yearly. On their marriage license he is listed as Severin Parron she Susan Gundlach.
