Peggy Ann Boggs Bland, 82, of the Arbors of Fairmont, and formerly of Farmington, passed away Thursday (May 12, 2011) following an extended illness.
She was born March 13, 1929, at Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Boggs and Opal Poling Boggs Skidmore.
She was raised from the age of 7 by the late Margaret "Maggie" Toothman, better known in the Bethel Community as Grandma.
Peggy was a life member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Farmington, where she was a Sunday school teacher, was a member of the adult choir, a member of the United Methodist Women's Club and held many other offices in the church.
She was a member of the Bethel Homemakers Club, a member of the Rebekah Golden Rod Lodge of Farmington and the Retired Eagles Activity Club.
She was a 1948 graduate of Farmington High School and retired from Sauro's Cleaners after 34 years of service.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Lou Boggs Martin of Tracy, Calif.; a brother, Robert Payne Boggs Jr., of Albuquerque; a half-sister, Betty Boss; a half­brother, Daniel, all of Florida; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Daryl and Annetta Boggs of Hills Bora, Ore.; and special friend and caregiver, Midge Fluharty, and Lillian Amos.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Claude Bland, on Dec. 9, 1987. They married Dec. 15, 1949.
She also was preceded in death by a half-brother, Erman Vance Skidmore.
Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Jack Flint officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Farmington.
