Ellen grew up in the Indianola area, then lived in Texas for several years before moving back to McAlester in 1979. She married Cecil Wayne "C.W." Welch and he preceded her in death. She was of the Baptist faith. She passed away at her home in McAlester at the age of 66. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Mike McDonald, of McAlester; one son, Randy Blackwelder, of McAlester. Also, five grandchildren, Amber Young and her husband, Jeff, Jeremy Snow and his wife, Meredith, Michael McDonald, Kyle McDonald and Randy Wade Blackwelder; one great-grandchild, Lane Evans Snow. And, one sister, Ida Mae Williams, of Ada; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Gabbard, Tyler, Texas, and Luther Gabbard, of Pauls Valley, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margie Anderson and Betty Johnson; four brothers, D. L. Gabbard, Johnny Gabbard, Jerry Gabbard and Bob Gabbard, and her first husband, the father of her children, O.B. Blackwelder. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2011, at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Bob Lyon officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers will be Randy Wade Blackwelder, Kyle McDonald, Michael McDonald, David Johnson, Preston Johnson and Clay Carter.
