ADA E. BAILEY, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, May 14, 2011 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Born on January 4, 1917 in Deerfield, Missouri, she was the daughter of Clarence Roy and Olive (Schoonover) Beaman. She was raised and received her education in Moline and Sedan, Kansas. She graduated from Sedan High School in 1934.
She was united in marriage to Chester E. Harris in 1938 in Wellington, Kansas. The couple made their home Burden where Mr. Harris owned the grain elevator. In 1946, they moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where they resided until 1956 an then moved to Winfield. Mr. Harris preceded her in death on January 24, 1974.
In 1979, Ada was united in marriage to Laurence Bailey in Winfield. She was employed at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for 2 years. Ada later worked for Dr. K.R. McCanon as a dental assistant for 23 years before retiring. Mr. Bailey preceded her in death on December 6, 2008.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Victory Chapter #151, Order of the Eastern Star and Ark Shrine #12. Ada was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed raising African violets. She also was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Her family includes: Her daughter: Judith Albright and husband John of Ft. Collins, CO; Her grandchildren: Stephanie Wolff of Denver, CO; and Carolyn Landron of Hanau, Germany; Her 4 great-grandchildren and a great-greatgrandchild; and Her nephew and 2 nieces. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Hugh Beaman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Ada's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
