He resided in Chittenden County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 5, 1944 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Plumber and also as Married.

Walter was "Killed In Action" in the Hurtgen Forest, Germany during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
