Farmer Kills Self By Slashing Throat
ALLIANCE, April 30.--Oliver Bates, 68, a farmer residing near Minerva, 14 miles south of Alliance, committed suicide Sunday by slashing his throat with a razor.
Melancholy over the deaths of friends is believed to have been responsible for the suicide.

Coroner T. C. McQuate, Canton, today rendered a verdict of suicide in the death of Oliver Bates, 68, formerly of Minerva, who slashed his throat with a razor at the home of his son, Chauncey Bates, three miles northwest of Minerva, last Sunday. Bates had been in poor health for several months.
