Military Rites for Young Flyer Killed in Crash of Plane
Funeral services for Floyd Joseph Killian, 21 years old, a son of Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Killian of Vanduser, who died Friday afternoon at Southeast Missouri Hospital of injuries sustained last Monday when an airplane he was piloting, as a naval aviation student, crashed on a farm near Jackson, were conducted Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church.
Rev. H. H. McGinty, pastor and Rev. S. D. Aubuchon, dean of the Southeast Missouri Baptist Foundation, had charge of the rites. Special music was furnished by a student men's guartet from the Teachers College, Mrs. J. Clyde Brandt playing the organ accompaniment. At Memorial Park Cemetery buglers, provided by the Louis K. Juden post of American Legion, sounded taps. Hundreds of students were present for the services. The casket, flag draped, was surrounded by flowers at the church.
Pallbearers were Bob Foster, Carroll Gunnett, John Bowers, Wm. Beard, Charles Brune and Wm. Van Horn, all of the aviation training class, making up the Naval First Indian Squadron, of which Killian was a member. All flying at the Consolidated School of Aviation, where Killian was in training, was suspended during the rites.
