Along his many travels he met his future wife, Iva Ann Akers in Clinton, Missouri. They married July 19, 1922 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri and had one son, Ivan John Jr. born August 24, 1923.
He married his second wife, Cuba F. Gerhard, on July 4, 1928 in Indiana.
Paternal grandparents were John D. McFerran and Martha Boling.
Maternal grandparents were James Harvey House and Elizabeth Ellen Lyons.
