Milan, MI--Age 95, died February 23, 1994 at Michigan Capitol Medical center in Lansing. He was born Oct. 6, 1898 in Fairgrove, MI, the son of Charles and Lydia (Gilbert) Puffer. He served in the Army during the US Mexican Border Campaign in 1916 and in 1918 was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in France during WWI. Mr. Puffer was a member of the American Legion Post #268 of Milan and charter member of the VFW. He was a life member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge #323 F&AM of Milan and past Patron of the Milan Ruth Chapter OES #106. He also founded the Milan chapter of the music-loving SPEBSQSA, Inc. (Barbershop Quartet). After years of working locally as a welder, he jointed the Army Corps of Engineers as a quality control inspector on major missile programs, retiring in 1964, and then became a seasonal resident of Vineyard Lake, MI. He also was an ardent outdoorsman. Survivors include two sons, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday Feb. 28 at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan with the Rev. Robert Goudie of the Marble Memorial United Methodist church officiating. Burial followed in Marble Park Cemetery, Milan. A Masonic memorial service was held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27 under the auspices of the Milan Lodge #323 at the funeral home.
