" Feb. 23, 1920 - May 9, 2008 Carmen E. Galbraith, 88, of Coeur d'Alene, passed away May 9, 2008, at home. Carmen Elaine Servick was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Kalispell, Mont., the daughter of George and Esther (Toney) Servick. The family moved here in 1922, and she graduated from IHM Academy High School in 1937, and from Kinman Business University in Spokane in 1939. In 1941, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Galbraith. They lived in Portland, Ore., until his death in January 1944. After Bill's death, Carmen was determined to provide for her three children and not accept public assistance. She returned here with her children, and began a 60-year career as a Licensed Public Accountant. Carmen was a past president of both the Women's Public Accountants and of Woman Golfers. She was an avid gardener, bowler and golfer. Carmen read the daily newspapers, listened to Fox news, and continued to do daily crossword challenger puzzles and Sudoko in ink until her death. In later years, she rode the hospital bus with Gena to the McGrain swim center for exercises twice a week, and went grocery shopping every Friday with Nicki Angel. Surviving family includes: son, Jim Galbraith (Marg), Novato, Calif.; daughter, Joan (Bob) Thompson, Crosby, N.D.; two grandchildren, Amy Thompson, St. Cloud, Minn. and Seth (Anna) Thompson, Fargo, N.D.; sister, Sr. Jacque Servick, Scranton, Pa.; and brother, Ed (Karmen) Servick, Coeur d'Alene; special friends: Nicki Angel, Hayden Lake, and Hospice caregivers: Joni, Kent and Billie. Carmen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; son, Bobby; sisters: Eloise Gordon, Gwen Sisk, and LuVerne Tacklind. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835 A memorial service will be held at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene at a later date.
