Author, Journalist. Her many volumes of travel writings, including "Sketches of History, Life and Manners in the United States, by a Traveler" (1826), "Mrs. Royall's Southern Tour", 1830-1831, and "Letters from Alabama" (1830), remain invaluable sources of information about life in the United States at that time. A longtime resident of Washington, DC, she was sometimes called the "conscience of Washington" because of her crusades against corrupt politicians.
