Gone and the world to go on as before
Gone with a smile, from the old homestead door,
Dear faithful heart, to come back nevermore,
O sad nevermore.
Home is not home! father's not there!
Dark is his room! empty his chair!
Angels have taken him out from our care-
Lifted him over life's stair.
Sleep father, sleep with your hands on your breast
Poor, weary, hands! they needed their rest.
Well have we loved you, but God loved you best,
Dear heart! He's given you rest.
