US Congressman, US Senator, Georgia Governor. Served in the Revolutionary War with the Georgia militia. Elected as a Representative from Georgia to the United States House of Representatives, serving in the First Congress from 1789 to 1791. Twice elected as a Senator from Georgia to the United States Senate, serving first from 1793 to 1795, then from 1801 until his death in office in 1806. In the intrim he served as Governor of Georgia from 1798 to 1801.
