Aloha Bennett, 82, of Yerington, Nevada passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2010 at the home of her son, Douglas Bennett, in Keno Oregon after a long battle with lung cancer.
A Rosary Service was held at 6:30 p.m on Sunday Jan 2, 2011 followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saratoga, Wyoming on Monday, Jan 3 with Reverend august Koeune officiating. Burial followed at the Saratoga Cemetery.
Nellie Aloha Bennett was born March 3, 1928 in Grover. She was the fifth of eight children born to Amil "Dick" and Lovina Jensen Leavitt.
Aloha married Doyle Thompson of Etna in 1946. Three children were born of that marriage; Marilyn, Karen, and Dick. They later divorced.
In 1961, she married Basil "Chip" Bennett of Meeteetse, Wyoming. A son, Douglas, was born of that marriage.
Aloha worked as a telephone operator, drug store clerk, and beautician-owning and operating her own beauty salons in Jackson Hole, Meeteetse and Riverton Wyoming.
In 1969 Aloha, her husband Chip and their son Douglas moved to Sparks, Nevada. After Douglas graduated from high school they moved to Yerington, Nevada where Chip passed away in 1986, and Aloha lived until October, when her family moved her to Keno, Oregon to be with her son, Douglas and his family.
While in Reno/Sparks, Nevada, Aloha worked many years as Head Housekeeper at the Nugget Motor Lodge, then as Keno Shift Manager for the Money Tree and Ponderosa casinos, and in housekeeping at Washoe Med Hospital in Reno.
In Yerington, she worked keno at Casino West and later as a cashier/hostess at Dini's until her retirement.
Aloha enjoyed her retirement years growing flowers, working in her yard, cleaning her home, baking bread, and home canning vegetables, fruits, jellies and jams to share with others. She loved her family, her home,and enjoyed many friends. she was a beautiful woman with a vibrant personality and strong faith. She could always find something to laugh about.
Aloha was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Jake, Ralph and Ross Leavitt, and sister Wyoma Watson; husband Basil "Chip" Bennett; fiancé Tom Patterson, grandson Danny Verplancke, and son-in-law Andy Anderson.
Aloha is survived by sisters Carma Skinner of Grover, Sharleen Booth of Afton, brother Gary Leavitt (Marleen) of Pocatello Idaho; four children; Marilyn Verplancke (Sam) of Saratoga; Karen Anderson of Henderson Nev.; Richard "Dick" Thompson of Saratoga; Douglas Bennett (Betsy) of Keno, Oregon and 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
