MEREDITH ASHLOCK

Meredith Ashlock was born in Anderson County, Tennessee, on October 19, 1811. In 1828 he moved to Greene County, Illinois, where he married Sarah Elzina Earthenhouse in July of 1833. They came to Collin County in 1845 and settled west of McKinney. The Rowlett Creek Baptist Church, possibly the first Baptist church in North Texas, was organized in their home. Ashlock was one of three commissioners charged with choosing the location of the county seat. Sarah died May 8, 1851. Merriday then married Elizabeth Ann Martin Weaver, born November 20, 1825. Meredith died December 12, 1896. There were numerous children in both marriages. His descendants are members of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
