son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Lester S. Lang, at 6 Ford avenue in
Oneonta. Mr. Mayne had been in failing health for the past year and came seven
weeks ago to Oneonta, entering as a patient at the Fox Memorial hospital, where
an operation for sarcoma was performed. He returned six weeks ago to the Lang
home, and for a short time his condition seemed favorable, but for the past four
weeks he failed gradually until the end came on Tuesday. Edward Mayne was born
January 28, 1848, in West Edmeston and was a son of Madison and Eliza (Burdick)
Mayne ... Mr. Mayne is survived by his wife, who was Miss Jozinah Johnson of
Burlington, and to whom he was married in 1872, and by one daughter, Mrs. Lang,
above mentioned. Two sons died in early life. The body of Mr. Mayne was taken
to Burlington Flats, where the funeral which was conducted by the Masonic
fraternity, was held in the First Baptist church. The sermon was preached by
the Rev. Oswald C. Lowe of that church, and interment made in the Burlington
