The following information includes research of Gerald Tudor with additional comments.

Isaac Ambrose Ross born Abt. 1756 apparently a twin of his sister Agnes Ross. Note that one unsourced date of his birth is "around 1762 in Culpeper Co., VA." Ambrose Ross died December 25, 1821 in Garrard Co., KY, supposed abt. 65th yr. per marker.. He married Elizabeth Gordon April 04, 1786 in Lincoln Co., VA (KY), daughter of Samuel Gordon and Barbara Cameron. She was born Abt. 1768, and died December 13, 1844 in Garrard Co., KY, supposed abt. 75th yr. per marker..

Notes for Isaac Ambrose Ross:

The large flat marker of Isaac (known as Ambrose) in the Zophar Carpenter Cemetery reads: "Isaac A. Ross Dec. 25, 1821 supposed about the 65th yr."  The D.A.R. also placed a marker on top of the flat stone. This supposed statement might imply that he was a twin to Agnes proven to have been born the same year as supposed for Isaac.

Misc. notes of Forrest Calico in his reading various Circuit Court Records: "Francis Dove married the mother of Ambrose & Hugh Ross, so deposes Thomas Kennedy, Sr. They had a sister Betsy Ross."

Andrew Kennedy deposes: "Ambrose Ross came to Kentucky in 1779, was very sick and recovered and moved to Owsley's Station."

"Zenith Carpenter (neighbor and brother to Robert Carpenter who married Ross' daughter,Elizabeth) In February 1810 told Ambrose Ross he considered him as big a fool as he ever saw when drunk!"

"Joseph Kennedy (of Madison County) deposes he heard of Ambrose Ross stealing bacon from old Sam Daviess. Hugh Ross and Stephen Langford also involved in stealing."

In June of 1993, the D. A. R. dedicated a marker for Ambrose. It is a fact that he qualified as a soldier in the Revolution, but a history read at the dedication of his marker, has holes in it as to accuracy and likelihood. He is given a birth of Abt. 1762. This opposes what is written on his original grave marker that supposes his age to be about 65 at the time of his death on 25 Dec. 1821 which would place his birth about 1756. If born in about 1762, he would in fact have been only 18 yrs. of age if he went back to Culpeper Co., VA to enlist in the Virginia State Line.

Notes for Elizabeth Gordon:

The large flat marker for Elizabeth in the Zophar Carpenter Cemetery reads: "Elizabeth Ross Dec. 13th 1844 age unknown supposed to be about the 75th yr."  The record of one Ric. Gordon gives an exact birth date of 30 Mar. 1765 and death date of 1841, but no source noted. It is strange that those who buried her could only suppose her age, but did know when she died in 1844.

Marriage Notes for Isaac Ross and Elizabeth Gordon:

From Lincoln Co., KY marriages: Consent of Samuel Gordon for his daughter, Elizabeth Gordon to marry Ambrose Ross 3 Apr. 1786. Hugh Ross and Thomas Kennedy, witnesses. Marriage performed by Joseph Bledsoe.

Children of Isaac Ross and Elizabeth Gordon are:

8 i. Samuel W.3 Ross, born February 16, 1789 in Prob. Lincoln Co., KY; died August 17, 1846. He married Susan Peyton.

Notes for Samuel W. Ross:

There is some difference in where Samuel was born. One source gives Franklin, VA which doesn't seem probable as the marriage was in Lincoln Co., KY where the second child was born. There appears to be no record of Ambrose and Elizabeth going to VA after they married.
