Funeral Services for Mr. Johnny Bonds, 79 of Carthage, Texas formerly of Tomball, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kirby Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Johnny died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in Magnolia, Texas. Mr. John Dennis "Johnny" Bonds was born October 4, 1931 in Tomball, Texas. He was one of seven children born to the marriage of Willie Roy and Cora Smith Bonds, Sr. Johnny was raised and schooled in Tomball, graduating with the class of 1949. Mr. Bonds served his country through the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married Barbara "Bobbie" Theeck Bonds who preceded him in death in 1997 after 45 years of marriage. Johnny worked as a self-employed contractor in the Tomball, Texas area. He moved to Carthage in 1995 where he was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. During his many years in Tomball he served as the Commander of the local V.F.W., Chairman of the Board of the Suburban Ranches Riding Club, and was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carroll Bonds, James Bonds, and Willie Bonds Jr., sister, Mabel Bonds, and grandson, Tommy Stone. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Hughes and husband, Frankie of Magnolia, Linda Edwards and husband Charles of Carthage, Joyce Stone and husband Danny of Maud, Sandy Norrell and husband Ritchie of Mansfield, brother, Charles Bonds and wife Margie of Tomball, sister, Elsie Harrison of Arkadelphia, AR, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Bonds, Chris Bonds, Bryce Blevins, Gary Hensler, Clifford Mora and Toby Register.
