Charles G. Buckmaster Dies at 80

Charles G. Buckmaster, 80, long time Salem area resident, died Monday at his home following an illness of several years.
A member of the Albany Carpenters Union, he was born August 21, 1877 in Greenville, Ohio. After moving to Minnesota he married the former Mabel Porter, March 1, 1924 in Sebeka, Minnesota. Mrs. Buckmaster survives him.
Following their marriage the couple moved to Medford, Ore. where they lived for two years until coming to the Salem area in 1927.
For a time Buckmaster was a bridge engineer on the Alcan Highway in Alaska until he suffered a stroke.
He belonged to the Methodist church and was at one time owner of a fuel company in Brooks.
Surviving besides his widow are a daughter, Mrs. William Peacock, Albany, two sons, Chester Nelson and Stanley P. Nelson, both of Lebanon, a brother, Dude Buckmaster, Orlando, Fla., and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Belcrest Memorial Park, the Rev. Wayne Green officiating. Clough Barrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
