JO ANN HUGHES, 74 loving mother and grandmother MACHESNEY PARK - Jo Ann Hughes, 74, of Machesney Park passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born Feb. 25, 1937, in Leaf River, daughter of Warren and Pearl (Foster) Schreiber. Married Henry Hughes in Rockford. Jo Ann enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her friends and family. Survivors include children, Jeff (KilSun) Hughes, Debbie L. Hughes, Tammy (David) Kerch, Jodi (Greg) Dowell, Julie (Joe) Butler, Paul Hughes and Chuck (Nancy) Hughes; daughter-in-law, Debbie Jean (Rick) Riles; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lee (Marvin) Kaney; and special friends, the Helgeson's. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Henry Hughes on Dec. 17, 2002; son, David Hughes on Aug. 27, 1994; and sister, Donna Zumdahl. Service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with Pastor Brad Rogers of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the funeral home.
