Lois was born in Quebec, Canada and married Hiram Allen in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. Lois and Hiram had a large family of 12 children. Hiram and Lois moved with their young family to Stephenson County, Illinois in 1852 where Hiram's siblings and parents lived. Hiram and Lois farmed in Stephenson County until Hiram died in 1864. Lois continued to manage the home farm for some time, but eventually sold the farm. Lois then moved to Nebraska with some of her children, but prairie life was not to her liking so she moved to Oelwein, Iowa to live among 3 of her daughters. Lois died in Oelwein of dropsy, and heart failure. Lois is buried next to her daughter Harriet Ann Allen Hill in the Oakdale cemetery in Oelwein, Iowa.
