Obituary
Charlotte C. Cornell was born near Cornwall, Orange County, New York, September 12, 1834, and died at the home of her daughter near Lewis, Kansas, January 7, 1917; being 82 years, 3 months and 26 days of age at the time of her death.
She was married to Chas. S. Ostrander on the 14th day of September, 1859. To this union five children were born, two of whom survive, Mrs. Chas. Huckstep, of Lewis, and Edward Ostrander, of Portland, Ore.
In the spring of 1877 Mr. and Mrs. Ostrander came to Kansas, settling on a farm three miles northeast of Lewis. In 1888, they moved to Portland, Oregon, and a few years later to Salem, Oregon. Mr. Ostrander died at their home in Salem on December 3, 1913. Soon after Mr. Ostrander's demise, Mrs. Ostrander returned to Kansas, making her home with her daughter her ever since.
Mrs. Ostrander was raised a Quaker, and in early life united with the Quaker Church, remaining a member of that church until 1878, when she united with the Methodist Church, whose meetings were held in the schoolhouse in school district No. 11 east of Lewis, remaining a member of that church until her death.
Besides the relatives, a wide circle of sorrowing friends are left to mourn the loss of the loving mother and friend. The funeral services were held at the Huckstep home Monday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in Wayne cemetery. Rev. L.F. Abernethy, of the Methodist Church at Lewis, officiated at the last sad rites.
