Barbara Jean Long passed away at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the age of 69 years. Barbara was the daughter of David Long, Sr. & Elouise (Alexander) Long, born on February 16, 1942, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She lived her younger years in various parts of Oklahoma, and was brought up as a "PK" - Preacher's Kid. She graduated Ponca City High School in 1960. She lived in Oklahoma City and worked for thirty-five years as an LPN at Deaconess Hospital, and had lived for the past seven years in Okmulgee. Barbara was a member of the Salt Creek United Methodist Church, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She always cared for her family, and when she retired from nursing she became their full-time ‘family doctor'. She had no children of her own, but spent all her time taking care of everyone else's kids. Her nieces and nephew knew her as ‘Aunt Barb', and her great nieces and nephews called her ‘Nan'. She had a special relationship with them all, and she will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, David & Elouise Long; one sister, Betsy Mozelle Long; an aunt, Melissa Deere; a cousin, Kenneth Deere, who was like a brother to her. She is survived by one brother, David ‘Dave' Long, Jr. and wife Cogee, of Okmulgee; one nephew, David Long III of Muskogee; three nieces: Melissa Gardner of Oklahoma City, Lisa Deere of Muskogee, and Johnna Gouge of Coweta; three ‘grandchildren': Billy Gardner and wife Ashley, of Oklahoma City, Phyllis Gardner and husband Harold Gaul, of OKC, Caleb Long of OKC; two ‘great grandchildren', Noah Gaul and Ella Gardner; various other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be Monday, May 16, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Salt Creek United Methodist Church, and Barbara will be laid to rest in the Harjo Family Cemetery north of Holdenville. Officiating ministers are Rev. Eli McHenry, Rev. Joe Lowe and Rev. Paul Fixico. Pallbearers are Dick Albro, Jimmy Salyer, Bill Gardner, Chris Aultman, Randy Aultman and Joe McHenry.
