Burton John Black, 96, of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 of complications following a hip fracture.
He was born Sept. 16, 1914 in Richfield, Utah to Alfred and Lydia Ann Barney Black.
He married Ruth Afton Melville in Fillmore, Utah on Feb. 10, 1939. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 24, 1965.
Ruth passed away on Oct. 22, 1983.
Also preceding him in death was a son, James Reuben; stillborn son, Joseph Alexander; grandson, Jason McCausland; gr-grandson, David Collins; his parents and seven siblings.
Bud is survived by his children, Thomas Black; Sue (Marvin) Slater; Colleen (Brent) McCausland; Steve (Chris) Black and a daughter-in-law, DaleLynn Black; 21 grandchilren, 41 gr-grandchildren and 6 gr-gr-grandchildren.
He was a member of the LDS Church and was a very good, kind, honest, trustworthy man, and was a very hard worker.
He lived and worked on the Pace and Warnick farms in Delta, Utah while he went to school. He was a star athlete on the school teams, taking state a couple of times.
He loved horses, gardening and deer hunting.
He retired from Geneva Steel Plant as a locomotive engineer after 30 years of dependable service. Bud loved his family and they loved him.
A few week ago he said, "We need to have a big party with the whole family." We will do that here and he will have that reunion "there" with family he has not seen in a very long time.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove.
A viewing will be held prior to services on Monday from 12:00 noon to 1:45 p.m.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
